Hi everybody,

It's been a while.... we know - and we'll try to keep in touch a bit more regularly! The good news is that our absence here is due to the fact that our shop is thriving and needs a lot of attention.
A different kind of attention was brought to it lately by the London based blogger Tina Bernstein who discovered our shop and wrote a lovely post about it - and us. We send a big THANK YOU to Tina and suggest you rush over to her wonderful blog colourliving for lots of colourful inspiration! Here's a little appetizer to get you hooked - one of Tina's photos she took at Tusch und Egon:

Karl is back in town

As you probably know, Karl Marx lived and died in London, where he is buried in Highgate cemetery. In honor of his 195th birthday on May 5th, the German concept artist Ottmar Hörl placed 500 statues of the philosopher in KARL MARX' hometown Trier in Germany.
We are proud to have brought Karl Marx back to London. You can now purchase the statues in 4 different shades of red in our shops and online.
Read more about the installation in Trier in an article by the Huffington Post here.

The Marx family lived in an apartment in 28, Dean Street, Soho, from 1850 to 1856. From there it was only a short walk to the British Library. A memorial plaque, installed by the Greater London Council, commemorates this with the words: "Karl Marx, 1818–1883, lived here 1851–1856".

Lene Bladbjerg in our store at boxpark

We are more than pleased to present a selection of beautiful, witty prints by the Danish artist Lene Bladbjerg in our shop now.

ON YOUR BIKE and DO I? by Lene Bladbjerg
Lene was born in Denmark, but grew up in Brussels, Belgium and is now based in London where she graduated at London College for Printing in 2000.

Since then, she has been working from her studio in Crystal Palace, South London, as a full-time visual artist and freelance graphic designer.Lene Bladbjerg’s work is influenced by her background as a graphic designer.

POLE DANCING by Lene Bladbjerg

Typography and grids drift in and out of her pieces creating haunting images and surprising messages. Her work can be very thought-provoking. She pays great attention to the smaller scale details of everyday life. In her work she attempts to capture the hidden beauty or interesting aspect of even the most ordinary of events or objects. She often creates her work by incorporating unusual materials, often re-cycled.

Come to our Boxpark shop, unit7 and get your own Lene Bladbjerg print!
Soon also available online

Alexandra Palace

Last weekend we headed over - or should I say up? - to the iconic North London venue, the huge Alexandra Palace, located on a hill surrounded by a park and offering fantastic views of the city. It is quite an impressive building and we were sad to see that unfortunately it is a bit derelict in parts. Luckily there are plans and efforts to regenerate the place over the next decade which would definitely be worth while! The potential is enormous... but see for yourself: below are a few photos we took inside the west wing.  This seems to be one of the parts in not too bad a state and gives you an idea of how beautiful the palace could be in general. We found its history and involvment with the BBC to be quite interesting too.

Juliette Greco by Man Ray

Well, then at least those of you who are in London or planning a visit here should not miss the wonderful exhibition of Man Ray's work at the National Portrait Gallery. We went yesterday evening and loved it! It's a lot to take in - a bit overwhelming nearly - due to the high number of photographs exhibited, and it is quite crowded, too, but nevertheless such a treat!
So, take time and enjoy portraits of the arty, intellectual, beautiful people Man Ray met during the first half of the last century!

Sunny Morning

Ah, how wonderful it is when after days of grey the sky is blue and sunshine spills out over the city!

Here a few impressions from today's morning walk though London - enjoy!

Isn't LOVE just wonderful...

Ok, now today's the day - really the right day to wish you all a very Happy Valentine!
Dear fans, friends and customers, Tusch und Egon love you!

Happy Valentine Everybody!

Isn't it great that this cold, grey month of February, when everybody is yearning for the colours of spring, is brightened up in the middle by the celebration of Valentine's Day?!

Red roses and hearts greet us in nearly every shop window, patisseries offer delicious, beautifully pink and red decorated goodies, love messages on cards make us smile and people go searching for just the right gift for their loved ones. All this warms our hearts and makes life in winter a bit nicer.
Below we have quoted a few lines from Valentine poems - enjoy!

Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.
- Aristotle

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.
- Lao Tzu

My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.
- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Young love is a flame; very pretty, often very hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. The love of the older and disciplined heart is as coals, deep-burning, unquenchable.
- Henry Ward Beecher

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.
- Anais Nin

Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward in the same direction.
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
-Helen Keller

Love does not dominate; it cultivates.
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.
- Zora Neale Hurston

Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love.
- Leo Tolstoy

Love is like quicksilver in the hand. Leave the fingers open and it stays. Clutch it, and it darts away.
- Dorothy Parker

I have learned not to worry about love; but to honor its coming with all my heart.
- Alice Walker

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this: where I does not exist nor you, so close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
- Pablo Neruda, "Love Sonnet XVII"

A Woman's Heart

A few days ago we snapped a photo of this humorous and beautiful drawing but have unfortunately forgotten where we found it. Nevertheless we want to share it with you, especially with Valentine's Day coming up soon!

London with icing

Icing on the cake: a dusting of snow lies outside our shop today. It started to snow this morning and hasn't stopped since. Quite romantic...

Regent Retro Toaster

 Regent  Retro Toaster by Rowlett

Retro is the new techno, and it doesn't get much more retro than the Retro Regent toaster. The Regent is more 70's than a flower-powered VW Beetle playing a Cat Stevens eight-track.

The Retro Regent comes in many colours - Saturday Night Fever white, Psychedelic yellow or Old Grey Whistle Test grey, Spacehopper orange is to name a few.

But the Regent is much more than just fun, funky and very, very flared. Oh yes, the Regent recently only went and took away the Home 2012 Exhibition Best British Product award at Earl's Court.

Until the Regent strutted away with the Ideal Home gong like John Travolta's grandkid, it wasn't even available on the retail market.

But the folk at Earl's Court thought the "Yellow one" was so unbelievably fab that Rowlett's been manufacturing them faster than you can say 'May the force be with you'. Well, the toast.

Truth is, Rowlett has actually been making these four-slot toasters since the 1970s. Which makes them accidentally retro.

And that's as groovy as it gets.

The main features of our toasters are
•           Made in Britain
•           The highest quality Controls. Time Switches (with ringer), Slot Selectors etc.
•           Pure Mica elements. (No nasty fumes & Silicone free)
•           No Chrome all Stainless Steel. No plastics except Knobs.
•           Heavy cast aluminium ends (Esprit Model)… Coloured.
•           Multi position slot selector switches for economy…no heating fresh air.
•           Virtually 100% recyclable ..if you ever get to that stage.
•           All models approved by BEAB/INTERTEK to the very latest specifications
•           The World best toasters.

order your toaster here
The toaster is handmade and nearly always to order, so you would need to allow a bit of time for deliver.
